About Tim Grey
Born in 1962 in Wimbledon, London, Tim Grey is an oil painter living and working in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. His artistic journey has spanned four decades, marked by a unique blend of talents as both a graphic designer and a fine artist.
Tim’s artistic roots are grounded in a diverse education encompassing art and design. This fusion of creative disciplines has been a defining aspect of his work, often blurring the lines between design and fine art. Notably, in 2000, one of Tim’s abstract paintings, Pipeline, was the centrepiece for an Australian Government and natural gas industry launch event hosted at the prestigious Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
While large geometric abstract works in acrylic once dominated his portfolio, Tim Grey’s artistic journey has evolved, leading him to a passion for realist landscapes and figurative compositions in oil. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Edward Hopper and Jeffrey Smart, Tim’s creations seamlessly integrate the technical precision and structural finesse inherited from his design background. What sets his work apart is his unwavering commitment to capturing the intrinsic beauty of everyday, seemingly ordinary moments. Through the interplay of light, shadow, and form, Tim crafts compositions that exude tranquillity, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in his art. His minimalist, geometric arrangements possess a calming effect, while his meticulous attention to detail beckons the observer to explore and contemplate scenes often dismissed as mundane. Tim’s 2022 urban landscape, Vacancy, is indicative of his unique perspective.
